My newly adopted 5 yr old Doberman is VERY pushy, and won't listen to me?

Ok first yelling at her is not doing anything. You need to show her what you want her to do. When she comes up to you at the table, you get up tell her no and lead her out of the room to wherever you determine you want her to lay or stay until you are done eating. You may have to do this 25 times during the meal but she should eventually learn where she is to be during dinner. Everything you are doing is wrong. yelling, spraying with water, hitting her with newspaper (yikes bad bad), etc. You are not SHOWING her what you want her to do. She sounds like a dog who was never trained so you may want to enroll her and yourself in a dog obedience class or two - it will help with her manners and also the bonding between the two of you.
