Why Do We Believe In Conspiracy Theories?

Some people like to be scared. By rationalizing that all the bad things happening in the world are someone else's fault, it frees them from having to take responsibility for changing any of it. This allows them to accept their own impotence as simply a fait accompli. All they have to do, is keep finding other people to blame.
