A 'yes' seemed called for and i gave him one?

Is this sentence correct? I feel that there is something wrong with it. Someone asked me out so i felt that i had to say yes. I just wanna know if i can say this sentence. Is it correct? a (sth) seemed called for and i gave him one? can i say for example: a smile seemed called for and i gave him one?
