Need help with a SAT Writing Question?

The first part of the sentence is already a complete sentence ("The evidence... persuasive"). The second part, ("Many people... phenomenon") is also a full sentence. You cannot combine two complete sentences via compound syntax. You have to use a semicolon to properly and correctly make it one sentence. It's called a comma splice.
